Quesnel 200 Countdown

by Kate 1/27/2010 8:54:00 PM
Hello All,
We just returned from the last planning meeting for the Quesnel 200. We have a great crew of volunteers on board with us for this the Inaugural running of the Quesnel 200, which has already been given the nickname of "the Q200" by locals. While we have had unseasonably warm weather so far this month, the trails are still in good condition. Warren and I went and did some of the trail marking today and I was pleasantly surprised at how things look out there. With my knee injury I have yet to have the opportunity to run on many of the trails which will comprise the Q200, so I really enjoyed getting out there today. The mushers are in for a real treat this weekend. We are hoping for some fresh snow but the forecast is not super optimistic at this point. The rest of the trail marking will be finished up tomorrow.
The weather has caused us to reschedule our checkpoints for the race abit. We will now be using Troll Ski Resort on the Barkerville Highway as our first and third checkpoint. We checked it out today. There is a great area for parking the dogs and Hildur (owner of resort) is being her amazing, hospitable, helpful self in having is all there on such short notice. Huge thanks to her and her staff. Be sure to check them out at  www.trollskiresort.com. I will be able to send updates from the race from there so be sure to be checking over the weekend.
Musher meeting is tomorrow night. We are looking forward to seeing those mushers that we know and getting to know some new faces and new dogs. I'll update tomorrow night post meeting. Until then, happy trails to you all.
Kate
