One of our trail crew will be using a SPOT during the race that will show their progress in real time as they make their way around the race course. Rob will be one of the trail sweeps, the snowmobiles that follow the last teams to make sure everyone gets to the next checkpoint safely. The link to his spot feed is http://share.findmespot.com/shared/faces/viewspots.jsp?glld=OtaNrVaiXJMNNvjvkbluCOI3HKw6hv6i so be sure to check it out. I have never used this before so am curious to see how it works.

Musher meeting and torch celebration

by Kate 1/28/2010 9:14:00 PM
Good evening,
The musher meeting went well this evening. As per musher meetings, the majority of the time was spent covering the trail. Warren and some of the trail crew were out on the Sugar Creek Loop portion of the trail  (eastern part of our loop near Wells) and reported good snow conditions. I am happy to report that it is lightly snowing here at the kennel as I write and the predictions are for up to 10 cm on the Sugar Creek Loop. It sure would be nice to get fresh snow on the whole trail. In either case, the trail is well marked and ready to be traveled.
The teams will be leaving the starting area ( km 10.5 on Umiti Pit Road for those local followers come on out and watch the teams take off)
starting at 4pm at two minute intervals.
Starting order will be as follows:
        Bib#1 Warren Palfrey
        Bib #2 Jerry Joinson
        Bib#3 Randy Mackenzie
        Bib#4 Ross Adams
        Bib#5 Abram Perry
        Bib#6 Kim Verge
        Bib#7 Craig Houghton

The first leg of the race is 50 miles so we will be expecting the first teams in to Troll Ski Resort around 9pm, continuing into the wee hours of the morning. I know what it is like when one of your family is running a race and you have no news, so I will be doing my best to keep you all informed of what is going on. For now we are all excited to get the race going.

There is also another event happening here in Quesnel tomorrow morning...the Olympic torch is making its way through town. As part of the celebrations, our local dog club is having members representing all the northern breeds bring in their dogs and gear to display. Our team will also be doing a truck pull, truck use donated by the local dealer, down Reid Street at approximately 1045 am so come on out and check out the amazing power of the Alaskan husky. Then we will head back to the kennel for the final race preparations and make our way to the starting line.
More tomorrow,
Kate
