Food drop bags are done, just need to load them up in the truck and head to Seeley lake for their trip to Tacoma WA via reefer truck and then on the Anchorage via Barge.
Total weight is 1550 lbs. This is about 400 lbs less then my rookie run in 2006. It was a learning experiance through and through.
I based my food drops on my race sceduale, it is a 9 day sceduale and things are set up basically on Dougs previous races, With the experiance of the dogs and what I know they can realistically do during the race, I believe that I am not over rating what they are capable of.
Everthing leading up to this point this season has mostly been a confidence building senerios for me and what they dpogs are actually capable of. I have seen the dogs do some things that are amazing , their resilience and physical apptitude to excel in their designed purpose is nothing short of a freak of nature. This has not been the case though they are not a freak of nature , it was the foresight and determination of Doug and his breeding program that instilled these superior qualities.
As I write, Mel is on her way the takling another Stage race title, the trail has been very extreme this year in Wyoming, but the dogs excel in extreme conditions. They can and do excel in all types of race styles.
I have always believed that they were special dogs it but was able to see this in the Great Slave 200 back in December, the trail was very tough and slow, and we had to break trail pretty much the whole race. I was very happy Ken was able to make the trip over to Yellowknife, to see the dogs preform against some good competition. Our dogs were simply superior in every way, they made thier way over the trail extending the distance between Ken and I eack check point.
Needless to say I am in a very good place right now. I only have a handfull of runs left before the big race. I will keep you all apraised.
Cheers!
