Warren into Nikolai

by Kate 3/4/2008 9:57:00 PM
Those of you following on www.iditarod.com were probably wondering why Warren had not left Rohn yet today. I still have no specifics as to what happened but my guess is that there were no checkers when he left or something did not get passed on to headquarters. In any case, I am very relieved he has made it to Nikolai. Two dogs have come back to me in Anchorage, Calvin and Earl, not the first two I was expecting but they are in good shape overall - no major injuries, sore wrist for Earl and tricep for Calvin. They were happy to be picked up by me. Calvin had apparently convinced the volunteers at dog drop that he was a very unhappy quiet camper until he heard my voice from down the way and leaped up and started his normal talkative self - he so surprised the checker sitting on the fence near him that she almost fell off the fence. I think he will be ok...they both ate well tonight and are now resting comfortably in the truck. I expect Warren to take off from Nikolai fairly shortly here tonight for McGrath. There are a few photos of Warren and the team on the Iditarod website. Go to images from the trail and click on March 1, there is one of us at the ceremonial start coming down a hill, March 2 , picture 15 of 18, is of Cash and Diesel leaving the restart, and on March 4 there is a great picture, 6th one down of Warren entering Nikolai- for any of you worried about his mental state go look at this one and your fears will be lessened- he looks very relaxed and happy, dogs too. More later - Kate

I was starting to wonder about the long delay. Too bad about the pups. Nice to see Warren picking up some time heading out of mcGrath this morning.
