Greetings all,
Sorry for the lag in the blog update. As you have all figured out by now, Warren took his 24 hour layover in Takotna. His choices for his 24 were Takotna and Cripple so he is still pretty much on his schedule. Tokotna is a great place to layover so I am sure that both Warren and the dogs have had a good rest. There is a video clip on the Iditarod insider of his arrival in Takotna yesterday - everyone looks pretty good. I see from the website that he has now dropped two more dogs but I do not know yet who they are, they should come into Anchorage tomorrow so I'll keep you posted.
Today and yesterday much of my focus has been on our dog Lena. She had injured herself on the last training run in Montana and it was diagnosed as a triceps tear. We were treating it accordingly with anti inflammatories, rest and massage. But after ten days of meds it was not getting any better so I had some of the Iditarod vets look at her on Monday, they prescribed more etogesics and rest and would revisit in a day or two. Still no improvement so we had her Xrayed yesterday to find out she had fractured her elbow bone. Well, she had her surgery today - a seven inch plate with ten screws but prognosis is good. She will be staying at the vets probably for the weekend so everyone keep your fingers crossed. I'll be visiting her again tomorrow.
My wonderful friend Karen arrived yesterday. This will be the second time she has come up to Anchorage to watch the extra dogs on the truck so I can go up to Nome. We are having a great time visiting and helping the economy of Anchorage of course. We may head back to John and Mari Woods in Willow tomorrow depending when the dogs come in, we may stay in Anchorage one more night. Plans are flexible at the moment.
Hope all is good with everyone.
Kate
