Hi all,
Though it was only yesterday it feels like much longer ago that Lance took out two 9 dog teams yesterday to get a feel for the dogs. I was in the dog yard waiting for his return each time and the smiles were big both times. He took the teams on our ten mile trail. The first mile or so of this trail is an upward climb of about 1000 feet and Lance sure enjoyed not having to help the dogs up it at all. First impressions seem to be of a very positive nature. We know the quality and ability of our dogs but when new people are running a dog team you never know how it will go. I think this is why this whole arrangement with the dogs for Jackson is exciting for all of us. So far, his favorites seem to be Widgi, Brutus, Jake and Blueberry. Lance and crew left after a good meal to hit the road and we sure hope that they missed the worst of the snow storm thta has hammered us for the last 24 hours. We got over a foot of snow in many places and with the Mail Run starting tomorrow it was necessary for Warren as part of the trail crew to head out on the trail today. Poor guy, along with two other snowmobilers, spent more time getting unstuck than trail clearing. Trail will be slow going tomorrow for all.
Lance will be running the dogs when he gets down to Wyoming and we will keep you posted on how things are progressing.
As for us here we will be getting sworn in tomorrow morning as official mail carriers for Canada Post as we spend the next three days participating in the Mail Run- check it out at wwww.dogsledmailrun.ca. It is a really unique event that is all about participation and fun more than competition. So far, 21 teams signed up. No purse, just good fun, good trails and musher sports. It is a busy weekend but I will do some posts in between the fun.
