The Bowron Lake expedition was a success!! Warren, Tyler D., Tyler G., and Larry and all the dogs returned home late yesterday afternoon with smiles, stubbly beards, sore bodies, a typical 6 day camping smell and some entertaining stories. Yesterday as it turns out was the best weather day for the whole trip. Always good to end on a good note, though it was quite cold for them leaving. We guess it was at least -25 degrees Celsius as it was -24 degrees Celsius here at the house yesterday morning.
They had some major trail breaking it sounds like everyday, even after going out to break the trail for the first two lakes and portages last week. We have had such a large amount of snow this year and the trails out there are not very well traveled during the winter. So they had a good workout everyday. And every type of weather from rain to sleet to snow.
As they had realized after the reconnaissance mission, they were not expecting to go out and do the whole chain on this trip. They ended up traveling to Isaac Lake and camping at the cabin there and doing day trips out around Isaac Lake. For those of you familiar with the Bowron chain they were at the Moxley Creek cabin. They tried their hands at ice fishing and unfortunately the ice hole they made was too small for the lunker they had hooked so no fresh fish for them on this trip.
The dogs were pulling solidly. They were definitely not able to move fast in those types of conditions but as Warren said last night they can tunnel themselves through deep now with ease! The younger dogs on the trip definitely had some new experiences on this journey.
They heard wolves howling in the distance but other that that the wildlife was quiet, hunkered down for the winter or avoiding the dogs who knows?
I imagine Warren will be filling you all in on the trip soon but just wanted you all to know they are home safe and sound. I know Warren is having a relaxing day so far today and Tyler D was looking forward to a similar type of day with Julie and Logan. Tyler G and Larry left around 8 am this morning for their drive down to the lower mainland. We wish them a safe journey.
Cheers,
Kate
