Good Morning all,
Well, one member of the team has arrived back home safely. I picked Warren up at the Prince George airport in quite a blustery winter storm late yesterday afternoon. We awoke to another 6-8 inches of snow overnight. Warren quite liked the flying home over driving home scenario, a new one for him. Though he did have to get up extremely early to get to the airport yesterday morning. Thanks to Kim from Seattle for taking him to the airport. Lance and crew are happily going to get the brakes fixed on Fat Albert this morning before they begin the drive home. I am extremely happy that the team survived driving the truck as it was - as Warren said it was a different type of driving - having to plan to stop 1/2 mile form the stopping point in order to be successful. Hopefully they will be on their way by the afternoon. While we wish there would be time for some good visiting with Lance, Tonya and Newton when they bring the dogs home, most likely they will drop the dogs and continue on as they have to get back home. Though I am hoping I can get Lance to sit down long enough to fill me in on how all the dogs performed for him and get his observations on them all.
As always, the Jackson race was a flurry of activity for the team from well before daylight with dropping and watering dogs to well past dark as there are more dog chores after all the festivities at the banquets. And in between all that is not only excting race trails to travel but great people to visit. One of the best parts about Jackson is the comraderie that develops among all the teams and all the members of the teams. I am sure that old friendships were renewed and new ones created over the last 10 days.
I haven't heard too many stories as yet but apparently the final banquet was a great event on Saturday night. Though it seems that most of the real celebrating among the mushers was in Lyman at the bar on Friday night until early in the morning on Saturday. The spectator events in Park City were well attended and enjoyed by all. Though the times for the run on Saturday had no effect on the final standings, Lance had a great run with 8 dogs over the 4 mile course. He then went out with his Junior Musher. Lance rode in the sled and let the junior drive. Reports are that he had a big smile on his face, well, they both did, Lance and the junior. We will be getting pictures and will post them when we get them.
Warren is out plowing the driveway now and then I expect him to relax some today. I am sure that in the next few days he will be doing some posting here so be sure to check back.
Another exciting event that happened for team Palfrey this weekend is that our eldest son Sam got a gold medal in his wrestling tournament in Edmonton on Saturday. We are very proud of him and his accomplishments this season.
Off to play with the dogs. Have a great day everyone!
