Well after the fist day with John Beck putting on a clinic, the times are very fast, having said that, GPS units are showing the track about 2miles shorter then the previous 2 years. I have raced here since 1999 and its weird not being in the race, we have some talented dogs, but I was not comfortable throwing them into the race without getting some runs on them first. Matt and Dave Potrais are leasing 2 dogs, Widgi and Dude for the race, and are doing very well for them. These dogs have been training for Iditarod all year, and just goes to show that good dogs can do it all. I would not have hesitated running If I would have had a couple of fresh leaders for the race. So we cant just let the dogs sit here all weekend, So we put 20 dogs split into 2- 6 dog teams and 2 4 dog teams for the first annual Deton'cho championship sprint races. Sam placed 4th in the 4 dog and 5th in the 6 dog in a competitive field of about 15 teams in each class. Like I said Good dogs can do it all, Very fun racing, Jesse once again won the 1 dog race with Thunder,extending his streak to three years running?? The 150 is great to watch as you can follow 85% of the race in a vehicle. Day 1 had Johnny in the lead by at least 2- 6 minutes most of the track, and looked good coming home, Sam , Trevor, and Brent seemed to have steady runs. Grant dropped off a bit the last 10 miles or Dave Hockman from MB fell back a bit but held his position to the finish. Wendy had her track down and seemed to hold them back steady run. Unfortunatly due to the Sprint races on Saturday, we missed watching the whole race except for the start and some of the finishers, quite a few folks loaded dogs, and had small teams to begin with, a few started with 8 dog teams, perhaps the fast hard trail has taken its toll on teams that maybe ran a bit too fast day 1? Here is the total times up to 10 th place unofficial as I did the math..
