Nome update

Good Morning all, I made it up to Nome yesterday!! The excitement on the oversold full plane was felt by all. It was the first plane ride I can remember where everyone on the plane was talking to their neighbors and not staring straight ahead- it was very refreshing. I had great neighbors, Annabel from Indiana and Bree from Anchorage, both up here for their first time to Nome. I really enjoyed talking with them and have already seen them both here in town. Nome isn't very big so I am sure I will see them again. They picked a good year for their first trip as it is going to be a very exciting finish. Predictions are for late tonight for Lance and Jeff and I expect Warren tomorrow during the day. He has just gone through Koyuk about an hour ago, looks as if he dropped a dog but we thought that earlier and it was just a reporting error so we will wait and see. Hopefully, if he did drop a dog, they will come here to Nome rather than Anchorage. I was met at the airport yesterday buy our host family, Lew Tobin. Many of you will recall that the last time we ran in 2006 we had asked for host housing here in Nome only to be told we did not have a host family and then when Warren crossed the finish line Lew and his daughter came to get us. At that point I had already managed to find a hotel room here through friends or it never would have been possible so we did not move in to Lew's. But this year I contacted Lew directly and so we are here. He is a great guy, I found out last night that he is the unofficial mayor of Nome so we feel very lucky to be here. I am really enjoying hearing the stories of Nome from him. His place is a geodesic (sp?) dome and it is very cool. He is working on an addition so that is where we will stay. It is a bright room with lots of windows that look out onto the frozen Bering Sea. When I arrived yesterday it was a gorgeous bluebird day but today is much cooler and cloudy. I had hoped to walk town abit today and shoot some pictures but the lighting isn't too great. I still plan on exploring anyways. I am happier that the weather is cooler as it will be better for the dogs. All for now as I am off to get some coffee- yes I did actually manage to write this pre coffee as remarkable as that may seem!! More Later - Kate

Warren and Kate, I want to congratulate you on Warrens terrific finish. But more than that thank you for the most wonderful experience of being an Iditarider. You were so wonderful with your dogs and people. I saw Warren at Rainy Pass both he and the dogs looked great. What an amazing feat you have performed and your finish was so much better than last year. I look forward to watching your progress next year. Thank you again.

You might want to mail bacl the bear claw from Alaska. Don't know how Canadian customs will feel.

The best to you.
