Having just closed out the first half of the year with the solstice on June 21, we are on the slide to darker cooler weather... (eventually).
Things slow down here in the summer. We have lots of small projects on the go, repairing/painting houses etc.
Both Hena and Hula have had their pups, 13 in total. Hula's are typical Filbert pups.. cow dogs.. while Henas are all the same colour dark brown with some lighter coloration. We also bred Filbert to Dobie. Dobie is a Peppy son out of Diana , who in turn is out of Ceaser and Stormy. Filbert is also a Peppy daughter.
Dobie was chosen for his preformance in the Ididarod this year. He is tireless, durable, and an easy keeper.
We attempted yet another breeding with Ricky this winter with Filbert, but it did not take.
We feel that Dobie is a great choice and want to prove his genetics and stud abilites in our program. Doug has moved Lenny to stud status. Lenny has the same dad and his mother is a full sister to Dobie's mom.
Lena will also be bred this year to Black dog. Black dog is another Peppy son that preformed great in the race, His mother is Etta a very solid leader that Clint Warke and Katie Davis both had the pleasure of running in their puppy teams for Doug's kennel. Clint ran her in a puppy team and Katie ran her as an "Elder."
I am heading Anchorage tommorow for the Iditarod sign up. The entry fee was increased to $4000 this year, as well they reduced the purse by 1/3 down to a total of just over $600,000, and have limited the entries to 100.
Looking foward to seeing friends there!
